This is a good example of a Japanese Officer Sword mounted with an old Wakizashi blade that dates from the Shinto Era and was most likely carried by a Pilot or possibly a Tank Commander during the War. The old blade wears a cutting edge of 18 7/8 inches in length and remains in good condition boasting a beautiful wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side and has only a few minor forging flaws. The tang has three holes and is unsigned. The hilt is nicely fitted with lovely fittings which includes a pair of bow quiver menuki. This USMC officer sword was made by the Lilley-Ames Co. Columbus OH and Retailed by The C. New London OH about 1938. I can date it because it has the phenolic grip and slotted head screws. Before WWII USMC swords were only assembled in the USA. The blade of the very good condition sword is twenty-eights inches long. Look at the pictures and ask your questions. Up for sale is a very nice, albeit used, Italian M1909 sword. The bluing is dark and glossy, the sword balances nicely and is in overall good shape- however, there’s a chip out of the palm-swell of wood grip, and the blade shows evidence of old, period sharpening. This is a good example of a Japanese War-Time Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a lovely arsenal blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 26 1/8 inches in length. The blade has some minor scratches on one side as well as some very minor stains on the other side, otherwise remains in good original condition. The signed tang wears the signature ” TAKAMASA ” along one side and a date that translates to “Showa juhachinen kugatsu (1943, September)” on its other side. All the beautiful quality fittings remain very nice in their condition. The metal scabbard has a few small working dings on one side only, nevertheless remains in very good serviceable condition as well. Overall measuring 40 1/2 inches in length. This is a good example of a Japanese D-Guard Army Officer’s Kyu Gunto Sword. It is mounted with an ancestral blade that wears a cutting edge of 19 inches in length. The blade although is in need of a professional polish, does remain in good condition with just some minor openings but no cracks and no bends. The tang wears two holes and shows to have been shortened leaving only a portion of the signature Omidajo Fuji? The large D-guard remains in nice condition with some of the original gild still present and is enhanced with a silver family mon on the backstrap. The beautiful white rayskin covered hilt is a bit damaged near the peg hole, otherwise remains very healthy in its condition and a small portion of the original twisted wire wrap is still present. This is a good example of a War Time Era Japanese Sword carried by an Army Officer during World War II. It is mounted with an ancestral, streamline KOTO blade that wears a cutting edge that measures 25 1/2 inches in length. The blade has survived in nice condition with a lovely straight temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The blade has some scratches and surface blemishes as well as has a small parallel opening crack on the cutting edge near the tip. The tang wears two holes and shows to have been cleaned with fitted during the war. All the fittings remain very nice and clean in their condition. The leather combat covered wooden scabbard wears two carrying rings and remains in very nice serviceable condition. Overall, the Sword measures 37 1/2 inches in length. Scabbard nice very light surface rust could be easily wiped off. Edge of sword has about a dozen small Knicks as photographed looks as if it were hit hard on edge. This is an example of a Japanese Army Officer’s Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a hand-forged blade which wears a cutting edge that measures 26 1/2 inches in length. The blade remains healthy with some minor surface blemishes and a few tiny nicks to the cutting edge, nevertheless is in nice condition and boasts a lovely large temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The well signed tang wears characters which translate to “BIZEN NAGAMITSU “. Although tight, the hilt is darkly stained however, all the fittings remain nice and the scabbard had some scuffing to the finish but does remain in good serviceable condition and has no dings.
