The stack and armored conning tower each have an “E” (efficiency) painted on them representing fleet efficiency awards in engineering and (probably) short range battle practice. These dual “E” awards make this photo a bit more rarified. The back of the photo says, in ink, that the USS Colorado is in the background plus the date June 1924 (see listing photo 5), it appears, by the sailor who originally owned it. Although there is some age related wear on the margins of this photo, this image is printed on sturdy photo paper of the used 95 years ago.
