Original 1930s Pre-WWII US Army Air Corps Pilot Hat Insignia Sterling Silver? . These wings are approximately 3 inches wide by 2 inches tall. They are mark sterling on the back on both wings. SUBJECT: Unique custom-made Italian Pilot wing in a high deco style. The wing was possibly made in the North African Italian colonies during the 1930s. SIZE: 3.5″ wide by 1.25″ high. CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: Chrome-plated white metal. Multiple piece layered construction. ATTACHMENT: Simple safety-pin catch soldered to back of badge. Raised gold bullion wire machine embroidered on an OD green wool backing with a copper disc in the center. This wing is still enclosed in the original clear cellophane wrapper which is stapled on one end. Postal Service is causing. Any man made /artificial threads, cloth will glow under UV, pointing to post 1945 manufacture, however badged uniforms / cloth items that have been washed over the years with modern detergents might also display a’glow’, you need to acquaint yourself and judge the piece as a whole.
