Asheville in April 1923 to Hong Kong, China. He remained stationed on the U. 31st 1923 when he was temporarily transferred to the Mare Island Naval Base before heading back out to see on the U. California until July 31st 1924. 1925 Private Cart served with the Marine Corps Naval Operating Base, San Diego, CA. Private Cart was Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corps in late 1925 and he was issued this Good Conduct Medal for his excellent service. Cart registered for the World War II Draft in 1942 at the age of 42. United States Marine Corps Private Chester L. Cart passed away May 21st 1980. NEGATIVE TESTED RIBBON DRAPE AS SHOWN IN PHOTO #12. The Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal was established on 20 July 1896. The medal was originally a ribbon and medal suspended from a clasp bearing the words U. The clasp was eliminated after WWII and the medal has remained unchanged in appearance since that time. Since its inception in 1896, the name of the recipient was engraved by hand on the reverse side of the medal until stamping the name on the medal began during World War II (numbered on the rim) and was done completely by 1951. In 1953, the Marine Corps adopted bronze and silver 3/16-inch service stars to denote additional awards of the Good Conduct Medal, replacing enlistment bars showing each honorable period of service. Since 10 December 1954, members of the Marine Corps must have three consecutive years of honorable and faithful service in order to be eligible for the medal. The Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal is affectionately nicknamed, “The Good Cookie” by Marines. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you! ORIGINAL UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS SECOND NICARAGUAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, W/ LOCKING CATCH FULL WRAP BROOCH, & 1/2 HILBORN HAMBURGER VIKING KWIKSET RIBBON BAR. RIBBON DRAPE TESTED UV NEGATIVE AS SHOWN IN PHOTO #12. The Second Nicaraguan Campaign Medal is a campaign medal of the United States Navy & Marine Corps which was authorized by an act of the United States Congress on 8 November 1929. The Second Nicaraguan Campaign Medal was awarded for service during operations in Nicaragua from 1926 to 1933. An earlier campaign medal, the Nicaraguan Campaign Medal, was awarded for service in Nicaragua 1912. The Second Nicaraguan Campaign Medal was considered a separate award from the first version of the medal and Navy regulations permitted the receipt and wear of both decorations, if so authorized. Southerland, who had been in overall command of both Nicaraguan campaigns, was the first recipient of both versions of the Nicaraguan Campaign Medal. The Second Nicaraguan Campaign Medal appeared as a medal suspended from a red ribbon with several white stripes. The medal displayed a woman (representing Columbia), armed with a sword, defending two other figures with a cloak. The medal bore the words Second Nicaraguan Campaign with the dates 1926 1930 displayed on the medals edges (although the medal was authorized until 1933). No devices were authorized.
