WW2 officer US Army Air Force Corp leather A2 bomber jacket USAF NAME group 44. Another original item from. Harris, a fighter pilot in the 410th Fighter Squadron, 373rd Fighter Group, 9th Air Force. He flew the famous P-47 Thunderbolt and his A-2 is with a beautiful chenille squadron insignia. Also included is the RAF Type C leather flight helmet with British RAF Mk VIII goggles which were adapted for U. The flight jacket has silver bullion embroidered Captain’s bars. The chenille 410 Fighter Squadron insignia consists of a red and white bordered light blue disc with a large drawn bow, the arrow mounted by a fighter aircraft. The interior has the original AAF woven nomenclature tag listing maker POUGHKEEPSIE LEATHER COAT CO. Poughkeepsie Leather Coat Co. The lining and cuffs are replacements and were done for the veteran to wear the jacket after the war which probably helped preserve the piece in all seriousness. The pocket contained a brass safety whistle which is also included in the listing. The flight helmet is the classic marriage of British RAF and U. AAF gear that so many 8th Air Force fighter pilots are seen with in period photos: Type “C” chamois-lined brown leather flying helmet has been modified with U. “ANB-H-1″ receivers complete with wiring loom and plug, and is complete with scarce WWII production RAF MK VIII flying goggles with RAF blue-gray strap, light brown face pad, and green tinted angled lenses in blue-gray metal frames. A fantastic group of original items, formerly the property of US Marine Corps Captain Thomas Howard Bruce, for service during WW II, The Korean War, and The Vietnam War, starting as an enlisted man and then rising to captain. Ensemble consists of the following items. Bruce’s framed original medal group, consisting of a legion of Merit with V and Navy Commendation Medal with V, among 14 framed medals (all unnamed as issued). A named, engraved officers Mameluke sword. Numerous photos, clippings, and memorabilia. A large collection of official paperwork and documents, including citations for valor awards, promotion documents, large and small photos, orders, and a bonanza of other miscellaneous paperwork and correspondence. Bruce received his Commendation Ribbon (later the medal when issued) with a V for valor for manning a heavy machine gun on the light cruiser U. Louis during kamikaze attacks of Leyte and Okinawa. His V for valor on the Legion of Merit medal was for service in Vietnams An Hua Province, where he established a supply base and rendered aid to wounded Marines while under rocket and mortar attack. The Marine Corps officers’ sword, overall length 36.75, is a high quality example with a German made blade marked Conqueror, featuring beautiful etched engraved panels with Capt. Bruces name in a polished metal scabbard with gilt fittings. All are in excellent condition. A very desirable Marine Corps group covering the major conflicts of the mid-twentieth century. Waller USS Mississippi dated July 13 1914; USN Mexican Campaign Medal rim-number 3628, WWI Victory Medal, and a Missouri WWI Service Medal; Mex and Victory medals are missing their brooches. All medals came out of an estate sale. I have done limited research; in 1910 Waller was an oiler aboard the USS Pennsylvania by 1920 he was a chief watertender at the Philadelphia Navy Yard , born and died in Missouri. 1931 US Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal group: named and engraved USCG GCM, Victory Medal, New Britain CT WWI service medals and a VFW convention medal. Stanley had prior service in the Navy during WWI. He served as a pharmacist’s mate in the Coast Guard aboard the New London CG Base.
