Rare Pre Ww2 China Original Numbered Army Navy Air Force Medal Issue Envelope
Rare original Chinese medal, pre WW2. Includes the medal, a ribbon device (which is pin back with a metal backing) and the original cloth issue envelope. The medal and ribbon device are both stamped with number 7399. The envelope is stamped 7399. The medal measures approximately 1 3/4 across at the widest. The pin back ribbon device measures approximately 1 3/16 long and the envelope measures approximately 2 3/8 x 3 5/8. The ribbon shows soiling and the medal some age discoloration. The ribbon device has rust stains around the edge. Very usual to find all three numbered pieces together. This is a hobby, not a living, so I try to keep it fun, otherwise why do it. _gsrx_vers_632 GS 6.9.8 (632). Photo Album Marine Aviation Scouting Squadron VS-1M Guam, China 1925-1927
This impressive album is 15 x 11.5 with approximately 275 photographs. It is incredibly well done. The photographs are in very nice shape; the cover has. The images document the service of a Marine, assigned to Marine Scouting Squadron VS-1M and begin with photographs of Marine Barracks San Diego, followed by the units deployment to Guam. It helped establish Orote Field at the Apra Harbor Naval Station, the first Marine aviation base in the Pacific. It concludes with images of the Philippines and China. In 1925 fighting between Chinese warlords reached the city of Shanghai, and twice during the year small contingents of Marines landed in the city to protect American interests. In 1927, a more serious threat blossomed as one of the Chinese forces pushed towards the city crushing all opposition in its path and panicking the International Settlement. Remembering the Boxer Rebellion and fearful of recent Communist depredations, the residents of the community clamored for their governments to provide protection. So, in early 1927, the United States ordered the initial deployment of about 340 Marines from Guam to Shanghai including Marine Scouting Squadron VS-1M. Highlights of this album include images of. Marine Barracks San Diego, California. A number of identified naval warships. Many Marine aircraft including what appear to be Curtis HS-2L seaplanes and Boeing FB-1 fighters. Orote Field including hangars, shops, and target practice with 7mm guns. Departing Guam and life in the Philippines a. Baseball, the Dreamland Night Club and brothel, docks, facilities, Philippine locals, railroad travel, urban and rural life, etc. Life in China the U. Legation, warships, soldiers from several countries including what appears to be a mule-drawn U. Army artillery piece, local Chinese, a camel caravan, scenes of the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, etc. One of the nicest military photo albums weve seen, and a rare visual record of early Marine aviation in the Pacific and the initial establishment of long-term U. Military presence in pre-World War II China. View My Other Items For Sale. I know that this can be expensive, but I’ve switched to this method because I’ve had too many claims of non-receipt by international buyers. US Navy Good Conduct & Yangtze Service Medals, USS Sicard in China
Group of US Navy medals to Machinists Mate 1st Class William A. Please note that ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS and PHOTOS are NOT included with the medals. US Navy Good Conduct Medal Officially named and dated 1924, with two bars. The top bar is engraved USS Argonne and on the reverse CSC 79137, 5 Jan 1929. Note that this CSC number matches the one on the medal. The lower bar is dated 1933 and is engraved on the reverse William Albert Marth. The medal has the original ribbon and the narrow full wrap brooch that was unique to the USN GCM in the 1920s. US Navy Yangtze Service Medal, officially numbered on the rim, M. 5037, with original ribbon and full wrap brooch. Issue of this medal is confirmed by number by several documents in Marths service file. Marths qualifying service for the medal was on the destroyer USS Sicard from 1926 to 1927. The Yangtze Service Medal was authorized by Navy Department General Order No. It was designed by John R. Sinnock, Chief Engraver of the US Mint, and was struck by the Mint at Philadelphia in 1933. The obverse design features a Chinese junk at half sail and the legend Yangtze Service. It was awarded to sailors of the Asiatic Fleet, serving on the Yangtze River and at Shanghai, China. The period of eligible service for the medal was September 1926 to October 1927 and March 1930 to December 1932. Also included is a VFW medal and a ribbon bar. The VFW medal was obtained with the other two above but I dont have any records to document Marths membership in the organization. Ive seen records from the 1930s that indicated that being the recipient of a Yangtze Service Medal entitled a veteran to membership in the VFW. Included with the medals is a color COPY of 26 pages from Marths Navy service file. It summarizes all of his service from 1920 until his retirement in 1940. He did not serve in the Navy during WWII. These records were scanned at the Military Personnel Records Center in St. Please note that NO ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS OR PHOTOS are included with the medals. You will receive color copies of the ones shown. Terms of sale: This medal is unconditionally guaranteed as original. WW2 Photo Album China 1938 Japanese Army Occupation Nanking Zaozhuang Xuzhou
WW2 Photo Album China 1937 Japanese Army Occupation Nanking Nanjing Zaozhuang Xuzhou with 384 Photographs Album has descriptions in Japanese on the pages or under the photographs. Some of the cities and counties include Hanzhuang, Jining, Yi, Yixian, Zaozhuang, Xuzhou, Shandong, Jiangsu, Weishan Lake, Han Village, and others. We have seen quite a few Photo Albums that centered around China including many from US servicemen who served in Country. Some were in the 1920s or before and others focusing on just after WW2 US occupation. This album is different in its content and scope because of all the rare locations and subject matter covered. Normally, most Japanese soldier’s photo albums have no Chinese content and if they do is just a small amount of content. What makes the album rare is that all the photos are from towns and cities in China rarely seen. One series of photos shows Japanese soldiers repairing a hotel to be used for comfort women. They hang up a new wooden sign, Hotel Pyeongyang House over “Maohe Hotel” sign. Now to be used as comfort station. What follow is a few pages of photos of comfort women with some obviously Korean and Chinese, and some may be even Japanese. Another series of photos depicts Japanese soldiers and Chinese installing telephone poles. Some of the photographs including marriage ceremony, funerals, soldiers caravans, railroad stations, bridges, war damage, trains, drinking, fishing, farming, weapons, Pagodas, monuments, Shrines, tractors, etc. Surprisingly no gore or death scenes with just a few prisoners and punishment scenes. Without knowing the history of Japan occupation of China, one viewing this album might conclude peace and harmony between Japanese soldiers and Chinese during the war. Photo Album covers 1937 to 1938 with 384 photographs. More than 95% of the photographs are taken in Japan occupied China. Photographs range in size with most photographs smaller 2.5 by 2.25 inches. Most all of the photographs are well shot with sharp fine detail. Album measures about 14 by 11 inches. Please see images below for best description.
