This is a very nice example of a Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword. It is mounted with a beautiful hand-forged blade that wears a cutting edge which measures 27 inches in length. The blade remains in very nice original condition with a lovely actively wavy temper line that extends to the tip on either side. The tang wears two holes and is unsigned however, there are a couple of light hand scratched characters that were added in recent years that could easily be removed. All the fittings have also survived in very nice, clean condition. The metal scabbard also remains in very nice condition. Overall measuring 40 1/2 inches in length. This is a very nice example of a World War II Japanese Army Shin Gunto Officer Sword mounted with an ancestral blade. The lovely antique Shinto, unsigned blade wears a cutting edge that measures 25 5/8 inches in length. The antique blade has some forging flaws as well as some very light surface scratches on one side nevertheless continues to wears a nice polish. The Sword wears Army Shin Gunto Regulation Mounts which all remain in very nice condition as well as features a beautiful silver family Mon upon the pommel. The Regulation scabbard also remains very nice with some scuffing to the paint but no dings. Overall, the Sword measures 40 3/4 inches in length. Be sure to add me to your favorites list. The blade itself is much older and is a koto period Samurai Katana that was remounted in the 1890’s for the current mounts. I have kept this sword in a long list of restoration projects but time and other projects force this one to go to someone else. It has a cutting edge length of just under 66cm, full length bohi engravings on both sides. It has awesome grain showing in the blade and it is in old great polish. The handle is complete but it is missing the locking latch on the side so the blade does not lock into the saya (scabbard).
