Very Nice Japanese Artillery Short Sword Pattern 1886
This is an extremely nice example of a Japanese Artillery Short Sword Pattern 1886. It is mounted with a blade that measures 21 3/8 inches in length which remains in superb condition with very good markings. The Japanese markings on the ricasso translate to “TOKYO ARTILLERY ARSENAL” as well as “Meiji 21″ which translates to “1888”. The beautiful brass hilt has a symmetrical brass crossguard and spiral grooves and also remains in very good, sturdy condition with a lovely aged patina now developed. The leather scabbard fittings have a few small dings, nevertheless the leather remains very healthy with the stitching perfectly tight and both staples securely in place.
